GelSight Reinforces Commitment to Advanced Surface Analysis of Any Material, Anywhere™ with GelSight Mobile 3.8 Software Update

Waltham, Mass. – July 31, 2024  GelSight, a pioneer in tactile intelligence technology, today announced the release of its GelSight Mobile™ 3.8 software package. The new features in GelSight Mobile 3.8 improve users’ experience and surface analysis capabilities by offering colored heightmaps in the 2D live view and custom report annotations that help users make more informed decisions about the surface characteristics of any material, anywhere. Additionally, an updated API expands on GelSight’s platform and improves the capabilities of our partners’ robotics and systems integrations.

After capturing a surface scan, GelSight Mobile 3.8 provides an enhanced, visually intuitive analysis view with new colored heightmap overlays. GelSight Mobile 3.8 also adds custom notes for PDF reports, which has been a frequently requested feature. These custom notes allow for better annotation of GelSight’s industry leading surface analysis reports, improving users’ communication within organizations and with their partners and suppliers. These user defined notations ensure every detail is captured and can be saved in reports even after they are closed. In addition to these new features, GelSight also continues to make improvements to the GelSight Mobile user interface that make the experience smoother and more reliable.

“Our portable GelSight Mobile system offers a superhuman touch sensor with micron-level resolution to enable reliable, repeatable surface inspection, measurement, and analysis,” said Dennis Lang, Chief Business Officer at GelSight. “GelSight Mobile 3.8 makes it easier for engineers, metrologists, roboticists, researchers, product managers, and other users to derive data-driven insights on surface characteristics  with more powerful capabilities to communicate their findings.”

Earlier this year, GelSight introduced APIs that enable users to integrate GelSight’s tactile sensing capabilities into factory automation processes, robotics systems, and OEM products sold as a total solution. Now, GelSight Mobile 3.8 offers live camera view and surface contact state indication capabilities for API integration. For advanced GelSight Mobile users, GelSight’s GitHub Repository has also been updated with the latest API features that can be seamlessly integrated into existing workflows.

“The new updates in GelSight Mobile 3.8 help users better understand the surface characteristics they are inspecting to quickly make more informed, analysis-driven decisions,” said Youssef Benmokhtar, CEO at GelSight. “For example, the surface contact information provides a real-time indication on whether a Gelsight device has made contact with a surface, making it easier to improve robotics integrations using our latest APIs.”
