As advocates and champions of renewable and clean energy technologies, the Advisory Board will provide immediate impact to the current lifecycle of the Voltaiq software platform as well as the long-term direction of the company.
The initial appointments are Shane Beattie, Ph.D., Dan Steingart, Ph.D., Jay Whitacre, Ph.D., and Luke Wilhelm.
Shane Beattie is the CTO of Elcora Advanced Materials, a vertically integrated graphite and graphene company focused on high-end market segments including Li-Ion batteries. Prior to Elcora, Dr. Beattie held technical leadership roles in battery testing and product development at Novonix, Nexeon and KnowCharge. Shane has published several well-received, peer-reviewed articles on advanced materials for Li-ion battery anodes and is a leading authority on advanced electrochemical testing techniques to predict the lifetime of Li-ion batteries. Dr. Beattie graduated with a Ph.D. in Physics from the Dahn lab at Dalhousie University and completed his postdoc at the LRCS in France.
Dan Steingart is the Stanley Thompson Associate Professor of Chemical Metallurgy at Columbia University and is also co-director of the Columbia Electrochemical Engineering Center. Prior to Columbia, he was an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton University. Dr. Steingart’s research is focused on the interactions between materials and systems in electrochemical reactors with an emphasis on energy storage devices. His efforts in this area over the last decade have been adopted by various industries and have led to five energy-related startup companies, including Voltaiq. Dan received his Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
Jay Whitacre is a full professor and recipient of the Trustee Professorship in Energy at Carnegie Mellon University and is the Chief Scientist and Founder of Aquion Energy. At CMU, Dr. Whitacre focuses on analyses of Li-ion battery packs, grid level energy storage systems, and alternative materials systems for energy storage. Prior to CMU, Jay was a postdoc scholar at the California Institute of Technology and subsequently became a Senior Member of the Technical Staff at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Dr. Whitacre has a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan, has co-authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications and holds over 25 patents.
Luke Wilhelm is the Battery Architecture Lead at Uber Elevate and is part of a group developing an urban aviation electric ridesharing product. Most recently, Luke was a Senior Manager at Apple responsible for battery system design and development. Prior to Apple, Wilhelm held senior technical management positions at QuantumScape, Green Charge Networks, Sion Power and A123 Systems where he led product launches for several automotive programs. Luke holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park.
